You are proud owner of “Kota Doria – Royal fabric of Rajasthan”.  This same cloth was wear by King’s and royal court member as head gear and dhoti.  It was also worn as sari by Queens and their royal associates. Kota Doria or Dori is unique mix of cotton and silk. Cotton adds strength to the fabric and silk add the shine. It is very light weighted and thin and that’s make it unique. Its name explains its origin. Kota it’s the city where it is originated, and doria mean fine thread.

History of Kota Doria

Kota Doria has an interesting history. In 17th or 18th Century Prince of Kota Rao Kishore Singh, who was also General in Mughal army  of Shah Jahan bought some weavers family from Mysore. These weavers were called ‘Masurias’. These families were settled in Kaithoon village just outside Kota. This resulted in the fine art which we know as ‘Kota Doria’. Kota Doria fabric was always the royal fabric of Rajasthan.  Initially it was wore as hear gear by royal court members. Later it was used as Dhoti, much later it became famous as Sarees.
In the present time around 3000 families still live in Kaithoon and still earn their earning by weaving of Kota Doria.
Kota doria weaving is done by handloom and that what’s give its unique texture and design.
Make sure you wash this fabric with mild detergent and avoid brushes.
